Alternatives, a Day Program for adults with Intellectual Disabilities, was established by a group of concerned parents in 1998. They dreamed of a place where people with disabilities could participate in meaningful activities designed to promote self care skills and active participation within the community. The goal was and remains for all people with disabilities to work with and for their communities, through vocational, recreation and volunteer opportunities.
Through the years Alternatives has grown from a home-based program to a respected model of success within the community. Alternatives has helped many people with Intellectual Disabilities from both York Region and Toronto to achieve their personal goals for success. The program is a shining example of what is possible when proactive parents and a caring community come together.
Our Mission
To assist individuals living with developmental challenges to integrate meaningfully within their communities by providing both life and job-skills training and experience.
Bringing Our Mission to Life
The Alternatives program successfully adapts to each individual's needs and abilities, and provides opportunity to develop a full range of personal, social and vocational skills. Our program encompasses meaningful activities designed to promote learning and involvement in vocational, functional, academic and self care skills, as well as including opportunities for recreation and volunteering.

A home full of dedicated caregivers, families, volunteers and, of course, extraordinary children. If you have a child or youth with multiple disabilities and complex medical needs, or would like to help those that do, give us a call. No question is too big or small.
